A top 10 showdown at Highland High School highlight’s tonight’s semifinal action in the Class 2A Region 5 softball tournament. The No. 3 Highland Huskies (23-5 overall) are set to play their final home game of the season in front of the sea of red, hosting the No. 8 Durant Wildcats (25-8 overall) of the River Valley Conference.

Highland cruised into the regional semifinal game with a 13-2 victory over the North Cedar Knights Wednesday evening. Eight Huskies scored at least one run in the game, highlighted by sophomore Kelsey Hora’s trio of runs. Senior Bailey Walsh went two for four at the plate, drove in a team-leading four runs, and scored another in the victory. Senior Katie Springer went the distance on the mound, allowing two runs, both earned, on four hits, walking two and striking out nine batters in the triumph.

Durant advanced to tonight’s semifinal by eliminating conference foe Wilton, 14-5. A six-run first inning paced the Wildcats. Senior Courtney Ralfs went four for five at the plate, recording a double, and driving in two runs in the victory.
