Wellman is continuing its tradition of holding a daylong event to celebrate Independence Day. It’s expected to be a busy day with the 4th of July festivities, including popular events from years past, like the kiddie parade and horseshoe tournament, and the Babe Ruth semi final and final games.
According to Tom Buckwalter, president of the Wellman Chamber of Commerce, you get a sense of how many people the event draws during the main parade, when thousands pack both sides of the street from the south end of Main Street to the north end of 8th Avenue.
He adds the grand marshal for this year’s parade is Ed Bontrager, a World War II Veteran.
