The Keota Eagles’ (9-16 overall) 2015 baseball season continues tonight at home. The Eagles are scheduled to host the Pekin Panthers (17-7 overall) in the Class 1A District 9 semifinal this evening.

The Eagles, who entered the season on a 43 game losing streak, has collected nine victories this season. Eight of the nine wins came against South Iowa Cedar League opponents, including a 14-12 quarterfinal triumph over the English Valleys Bears on Tuesday. During their two regular season meetings, English Valleys outscored Keota 23-3. Junior Nate Sieren highlights the Eagle offense, leading the team in batting average (.397), on base percentage (.463), total hits (29), runs batted in (15), and stolen bases (17). Junior Zach Mousel leads the Eagle pitching staff with 76.2 innings pitched, posting a 5-4 record, and a team best 3.38 earned run average.

The Panthers cruised into the semifinal round with a 10-0 victory over the Tri County Thornburg Trojans. Junior Keaton Winn has made an impact at the plate and on the mound this season. Winn is the Panthers’ leader in batting average (.403), total hits (28), and runs batted in (21). He also is the team’s top pitcher, leading the Panthers in innings pitched (46.2) and giving up three earned runs all season long.

First pitch of tonight’s Class 1A District 9 semifinal is set for 7 p.m. at Keota High School.
