A late game rally caused the end of the Lone Tree Lion softball team’s (8-20 overall) season Monday evening. The Lions opened up Class 1A Region 3 tournament play versus the Springville Orioles (21-20 overall).

Lone Tree and Springville traded leads over the first four innings of the game with the Lions striking first with two runs in the top of the first. The Orioles responded in the bottom of the inning with a trio of runs, gaining a 3-2 advantage after one frame. The score stayed the same until the top of the fifth inning when Lone Tree recorded a pair of runs, regaining the lead 4-3. A five-run bottom of the sixth inning by Springville proved to be the difference in the clash, recapturing the lead 8-4. The score would become the final a half inning later.

The victory advanced Springville to the regional quarterfinal round against the Central City Wildcats.

The loss ends Lone Tree’s softball season with a final record of 8-20.
