Law enforcement will have a more pronounced presence on area roadways this weekend. Extra law enforcement officers are patrolling Iowa’s roadways watching for individuals impaired by alcohol who are behind the wheel or on a motorcycle now through Tuesday.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 27 percent of motorcycle operators involved in fatal crashes over the Fourth of July weekend in 2013 had blood alcohol contents of .08 or higher.

The holiday weekend is one of the deadliest on the nation’s roadways when it comes to crashes involving alcohol.
