It took a while, but the Lone tree baseball team advanced to the district championship game last night, with a 6-3 win over Highland.

The Lions battled the Huskies for 11 innings before three Lone Tree runs in the top of the eleventh inning put the game away. Highland scored first in the fifth inning on back to back home runs by Kory Schnoeblen and Spencer Wieland put the Huskies up 3-0.

Lone Tree was not to be outdone though, coming back with a pair of runs in the 6th and a single run in the 7th to tie the score. From there it was a battle as neither team was able to mount any offense.

The Lions finally scored in the top of the 11th inning, when they tallied three runs on two hits, two hits and some costly Highland errors.

Erik Murry, who came in for Lone Tree in relief, was dominant on the mound, as the Huskies couldn’t handle his fastball. Murry threw the last five inning for the Lions striking out 10 Highland batters over the five frames. Highland ends their season with a 17-9 record, while Lone Tree moves on with the same 17-9 mark.

Lone Tree will now advance to the district championship game against Pekin, who was a 13-5 winner over Keota last night. The Lions met Pekin twice during the regular season, losing both times, 5-0 and 2-1.
