The Mount Pleasant Mental Health Institute will remain closed. It was announced Thursday that Governor Terry Branstad had vetoed the portion of the Health and Human Services Budget bill that provided operating funds for the facility. The institution closed Tuesday, as the governor’s budget for the fiscal year that started Wednesday did not allocate funds to keep it running.

For Republican State Representative Dave Heaton’s thoughts following the announcement, and to hear from Democratic State Senator Rich Taylor on the matter, listen to the attached audio.
