Mid-Prairie baseball coach Andy Greiner called the season that just ended an up and down season for his squad.

During an appearance on this past weekends Coaches Corner show, Greiner chalked up the season ending loss to Central Lee in the district to too many mental and physical errors. The Golden Hawks lost the game 8-7 when Central Lee plated a run in the top of the 7th. In the bottom of the inning Mid-Prairie had two runners in scoring position, but failed to push either runner across the plate.

The Golden Hawks lose just one player from this year’s team, senior Jackson Yoder, who Greiner says acted almost like an additional coach showing leadership to the younger players on the team. Yoder will go on to play baseball at Mount Mercy College.

Sophomore Derek Rich led the team in hitting this past season, with a .393 average. The team’s top pitchers will return next year, both Rich and junior Adam Schrock finished with earned run averages below three on the season.

The Golden Hawks finished the season with a 13-14 overall record.
