Student achievement, engagement and facilities will be the three goals of the Washington Community School Board this coming school year. The board discussed their goals at last night’s regular session meeting, the first for Superintendent Jeff Dicks. In his superintendent report, he explained there will be a ground breaking ceremony for the new auditorium next month and bids for the new early childhood center will be let later this year or early next year. In addition, he explained the veto by Governor Terry Branstad for one time money for education funding has a $195,000 impact on the local school district. The board refinanced bonds earlier this year which will help with the financial situation.

In other business, there are four seats on the board up for election this fall and petition forms must be submitted to central office by July 30th.
