The team standing in the way of the Sigourney Savages’ softball team (25-11 overall) and a spot in the regional finals is a familiar one. The Savages continue Class 1A Region 5 play this evening, hosting the North Mahaska Warhawks (14-16 overall) at Sigourney High School.

Sigourney coasted into the semifinals with a 13-0 victory over the Moulten-Udell Eagles in three innings Wednesday evening. Freshman Brooke Waechter went three for three at the plate, driving in five runs in the victory. Senior Jordan Carter and Kendall Streigle each drove in three additional runs for Sigourney in the quarterfinal win.

North Mahaska advanced to the regional semifinals by shutting out the Moravia Mohawks in New Sharon.

Sigourney and North Mahaska are members of the South Iowa Cedar League, and met twice on the softball diamond prior to tonight’s game. Sigourney swept the season series, winning 11-0 in New Sharon on May 29 and 10-7 on June 23.
