Despite falling one out short of a state tournament berth, the ace pitcher of the Sigourney Savage softball team has been recognized as one of the best players in the state. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has named senior Jordan Carter one of 22 Class 1A First Team All-State performers.

Carter was the Savages’ primary pitcher this summer, throwing 188 of Sigourney’s 232.1 innings recorded, finishing with a record of 21-9. Her 1.97 earned run average and 124 strike outs this season were second best in conference. At the plate, Carter had the league’s best slugging percentage (.919), recorded the most doubles (30), was second in the conference in batting average (.570), and ranked third in on base percentage (.590).

Freshman infielder Autum Barthelman was named as an all-state honorable mention.

The Savages’ 2015 season ended with a 26-12 overall record. Sigourney was one step away from a trip to the state tournament, falling 2-1 in the Class 1A Region 5 championship game.
