For the first time this summer, temperatures rose above 90 degrees over the weekend and are expected to do so again today with a real feel over 100 degrees. Do not leave pets in parked cars, advises director of PAWS and More animal shelter Amber Talbot, as they can quickly become an oven with rising interior temperatures. She recommends if you see a pet in a car unattended, go in the store and ask for a manager to help you locate the owner of the vehicle. She also advises that you may call the non-emergency line for local authorities.

According to the ASPCA, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, on an 85 degree day it only takes 10 minutes for the inside of a car to be 102 degrees hot, even with the windows open an inch or two. The same car’s interior can climb to 120 degrees in half an hour.
