The last time Washington was an overnight stop for RAGBRAI was in 2000. RAGBRAI, the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa, began in the 1970s. Today is the final day of this year’s cycling event and it is ending in Davenport.
At this week’s Washington City Countil meeting Washington Chamber of Commerce director Michelle Redlinger asked the council for support for an application to have Washington as an overnight host community for next year’s RAGBRAI. She explained the potential impact on the community is estimated to be between $3.5 to $4 million in a 24 hour period. The council approved the request for support.
