Postseason play begins tonight in Williamsburg for the Washington Demon baseball team (6-19 overall). The Demons open Class 3A District 9 tournament play this evening versus the Williamsburg Raiders (25-11 overall).

The Demons regular season started out promising, winning three of their first five games. Washington ended the year losing 11 of their final 12 games, scoring three or less runs in nine of those losses.

Washington’s lone senior, Blake Weidman, has made an impact at the plate this season. He leads the team in batting average (.382), on base percentage (.447), total hits (29), doubles (10), and runs scored (19). Sophomore Colin Zear leads the Demons’ pitching staff, throwing a team-best 31.1 innings, posting a 3.80 earned run average.

The Raiders enter the postseason winners of eight of their final 10 regular season games, including four in a row. Williamsburg’s 254 runs scored this season is the third most in Class 3A baseball so far this season.
