Each year the Iowa Character Awards are presented by the Robert D. And Billie Ray Center at Drake University and this year there are recipients from Washington. The Washington High School Students Against Drunk Driving, or SADD, group received the school organization of character award. Principal Erik Buccholz explained the students involved were interviewed and the revamped school garden was the backdrop for the recorded segments.

The 12 Character Awards have been presented annually since 2005. All recipients have been invited to attend the awards dinner at Prairie Meadows Events and Conference Center July 31st.
