Two struggling softball teams meet in Keosauqua tonight to open the Class 1A Region 5 tournament. The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (3-22 overall) will square off against the Van Buren Warriors (7-17 overall) in the first round of the regional tournament.

One team will end a losing streak tonight. W-MU enters tonight’s postseason opener on a nine game skid, while Van Buren has been on the losing side of their last eight regular season games. The Wolves last victory came on June 18, a 4-3 triumph over the Iowa Mennonite School.

Winfield-Mount Union has one of the best base stealers in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference. Senior Karlie Wade has swiped 18 bags in 18 stolen base attempts, the second most stolen bases in the league behind Highland’s Kelsey Hora (29).

First pitch of tonight’s Class 1A Region 5 first round clash is set for 7 p.m. at Van Buren High School.
