The West Branch Bears hosted a volleyball tournament Saturday that included KCII area teams Highland, Lone Tree and Winfield Mt. Union.

The Huskies participated in four matches Saturday, splitting their contests. Highland dropped their tournament opener in straight sets to the host Bears, 6-21 and 4-21. The Huskies were also beaten in their second outing, this time in three games by rival Lone Tree 13-21, 21-16 and 14-16. The Huskies were able to rebound to grab two straight wins to close out action, first taking out Winfield-Mt. Union in three games 25-23, 23-25 and 15-9. The final Highland win of the day came over Central City in convincing fashion 25-11 and 25-20. Stat leaders for the Huskies on the day included Briana Davis with 17 kills and 13 assists, Jenna Dresselhaus with 14 digs. The Huskies are now 5-3 on the year and will next be in action Thursday when they travel to WACO.

Winfield Mt. Union also split their four matches on the day Saturday in West Branch. The Wolves began play by dropping their match with Eddyville-Blakesburg in straight sets 10-21 and 11-21. In match two it was the Wolves that did the sweeping, taking out English Valleys 25-10 and 25-18. In their third match of the day Winfield-Mt. Union was bested by Iowa City Regina in three games 21-16, 11-21 and 11-15. The Wolves ended the day on a high note with a sweep of Central City 21-19 and 21-11. The Wolves were led on the day statistically by Pearl Krieger-Coble with 17 kills, Cassidy Lennie with 28 digs and Caitlyn Jamison with 25 assists. The Wolves are now 2-5 on the year and will next be in action Thursday when they travel to Pekin.
