In November, residents of Washington County will have the opportunity to vote on a bond measure for a new public health building. Steve Olson serves as the chair of the building and finance committee for the Board of Health and is supporting the proposed building. Currently Washington County Public Health operates on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors of the Federation Bank building. Each year the department has a line item of $50,000 for rent and utilities and since 2005, in four different locations, the department has spent $340,000 on rent. Olson says they will be making presentations across the county in the next few weeks to present the proposal and answer any questions.

Danielle Pettit-Majewski, administrator of the department, shares the building would increase efficiency and better serve the residents of Washington County.

The finished building with a 60 stall parking lot and completely furnished is estimated to cost $2.8 million and grants will be sought to help pay for the project. For more information listen to today’s Washington Page.
