A Washington County shooting sports organization is looking for adults interested in teaching future generations proper gun safety. The Washington County 4-H Bows and Bullets club is comprised of 20 members in fourth grade through 12th grade and has eight range instructors.

The group is looking for caring adults to be trained in archery, rifle, muzzle loader, shot gun or wildlife skills and is willing to work with club members at the range periodically throughout the year.

Washington County 4H youth coordinator Amy Green says people interested in becoming trained instructors are encouraged to sign up for the 4H Shooting Sports Instructor Training session. “It’s a requirement for them to be on our volunteer list that they go through this weekend training.” Green said, “Get to learn the 4H way and learn all the safety procedures we would want followed when on the range.”

Green says the next 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Training course is being held September 18-20 at the Dubuque County Izaak Walton League in Peosta. For more information about the training, contact the Washington County Extension Office at (319) 653-4811.
