With a full week of practice in the books, Washington head volleyball coach Julliana Berg is pleased with her team’s progress. Berg has been especially happy with the transition of her five returning seniors into being the team’s leaders.

“It is always interesting to see the transition for girls when they go from being juniors to seniors.” Berg said, “As juniors they are going to be a little more quiet, more reserved, and don’t have as big of an opinion on things. However, once they are seniors, they really take on that leadership role.”

Berg’s returning seniors includes all-conference honorable mention Morgan Kimball along with Amber Salow, McKenna Brinning, Emma Stout, and Shannon Powers. This group will try to improve on Washington’s 6-23 record last season.

Through the first week of practice, Brinning says she sees a difference in how the team is playing together, “We are having more fun together.” Brinning said, “Which will help us play better in the end.”

Washington will participate in a round robin scrimmage in Sigourney next Thursday.
