A group of Kalona residents and a service organization will be recognized at Kalona’s Downtown Celebration next weekend. It was announced this week that the Kalona Optimist Club, Vernon Ropp, Doug Yotty, Larry and Sally Kern as well as JD and Carol Boyd would be receiving the city’s community awards. City officials had 14 nominations to consider for the awards meant to honor those who have made Kalona the place it is today. The downtown celebration is being held Saturday, August 29th.
