A Louisa County couple is now part of the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. F.D. and Lucile Smylie, who married in 1937, have been inducted for their hands-on and visionary roles in 4-H. The couple assisted with the county fair and purchased many animals from young producers through the years.

Their contributions have been recognized in the past. F.D. is in the Iowa Association of Fairs Hall Fame and Iowa Draft Horse Hall of Fame, and the Smylies were the Distinguished Citizens at the Columbus Day Parade in 1991.

They continue to make an impact even after their passing, as their family has continued to support agriculture programs in their name.
