Lone Tree football coach Chad Shields was very pleased with the performance of his team in a scrimmage against Louisa-Muscatine last week.

Shields was happy to see his team put on a 19-play, 80 yard drive at the beginning of the scrimmage that resulted in a one yard touchdown run by Jared Hudson. The senior is returning this season after leading the Lions in rushing last year totaling over 1,200 yards, averaging 5.8 yards per carry while scoring 16 touchdowns.

The Lions’ leading rusher in the scrimmage was a freshman, Bryce Houser. The Lions also return Greg Feldman to the rushing attack, Feldman averaged 6.6 yards per carry on 43 rushing attempts last season.

Lone Tree, coming off a 6-4 season a year ago, opens the season Friday night at home against North Mahaska. Last season the Lions were the winner over North Mahaska. 35-19.
