Highway 1 can now be taken from Brighton to Washington. A ceremonial ribbon cutting was held yesterday morning prior to the official opening of the new Skunk River Bridge. The event organized by the Washington and Brighton chambers of commerce included speeches from Washington chamber director Michelle Redlinger, Brighton chamber president Nancy Adrian, and a representative for the project’s contractor, Iowa Bridge and Culvert of Washington.

There was also a prayer led by Pastor Rick Zickefoose of Brighton United Church. An October finish was anticipated when the bridge replacement got underway at the beginning of the year.
