Some students will need to get their vision tested before school starts. A new vision screening law took effect May 6th of this year. It requires students entering Kindergarten and 3rd grade have their eyesight tested. The screening can occur up to one year prior to enrollment and no later than six months after enrollment. Parents have to provide proof their child was tested to the school nurse.

For more information, call Washington County Public Health or the nurse at the school your child is attending. You can also listen to our conversation with Washington County Public Health social worker, Jen Weidman, regarding the new requirement.
