This week the Washington Community School Board set priorities for the upcoming school year. The board first approved their board goals, which include student achievement, engagement with students, staff and parents, and facilities.

Legislative priorities were also approved with setting supplemental state aid timely and adequately, extending the state penny measure, support funding and reform of Iowa’s K-12 education system, and continued support for Iowa core. Iowa core standards are different than those of common core. There was some discussion about limiting school board terms to three years instead of four, to encourage more involvement.

The board also discussed the superintendent’s goals for the upcoming school year, which will be on the agenda for September’s meeting.
