Rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for later this evening and tomorrow. Larry Smith, Washington and Keokuk County Emergency Management Coordinator, reminds residents to be prepared for inclement weather in the area throughout the season by having an emergency kit ready and listening for weather forecasts. He advises emergency kits should be in a safe place such as a basement or interior room, and should include food and water for each person and pets for up to 72 hours, as well as any medication, a first aid kit, batteries and a weather radio.

On Sunday, golfball sized hail was reported near Sigourney with dents in siding. The same storm produced tornadoes in Iowa, Illinois and Michigan. The tornado touched down in Adams County, in southwest Iowa.

Approximately half an inch of rain is forecast for Washington tomorrow, listen to KCII for weather updates.
