Nearly half an inch of rain fell in Washington Monday and more precipitation is in the forecast. According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms will be in the area later today. Larry Smith, Washington and Keokuk Counties Emergency Management Coordinator, advises people to be aware of the weather and have an emergency kit ready in a safe place, such as a basement.

So far this month, two inches of rain has been recorded in Washington, below the normal amount by about half an inch. Washington has observed 26.23 inches of precipitation so far this year, two inches above normal.
