Storm and sanitary sewer line issues were discussed at last night’s Washington City Council meeting. Staff with Veenstra and Kimm Engineering presented the results of their flow metering study conducted this spring, which recorded the large rainfall of over 2.5 inches on June 24th. The study monitored flow in the north-central part of Washington.

It was explained that 30 gallons per minute is good, but during that heavy rainfall the system recorded nearly 6,000 gpm. The high flow indicates areas where inflow and infiltration can be addressed to alleviate issues.

City Administrator Brent Hinson explained problems with one part of the system can impact the entire city because it all goes to the waste water treatment plant.
