After a decorated senior year athletically, 2015 Sigourney graduate Jordan Carter is set to continue her volleyball and softball careers in Central Iowa. Carter, a third team all-state volleyball player and first team all-state pitcher during her final year of high school, is days away from moving onto campus at Marshalltown Community College.

Carter says she liked Marshalltown Community College because of the size of the school, “Coming from a small school like Sigourney, I really wanted something small where I could know a lot of people.” Carter said, “I didn’t want something big where I passed someone in the hallway and didn’t really know them.”

She adds making new friends in college shouldn’t be an issue as the campus is all comprised in one building. The volleyball coach who recruited Carter, Chris Brees, resigned from his position over the summer, citing a desire to pursue future opportunities in coaching. The Tigers announced Brees’ replacement is Peter Cruz. He comes to Marshalltown after three seasons at the University of Arkansas Monticello, an NCAA Division II program.

Carter’s softball coach is also new to MCC. Garland Shirley was named the Tigers’ new softball coach in June, bringing 20 years of softball experience with him. Shirley was most recently an assistant coach for the AIB College of Business Eagles, increasing the team’s win total by 14 games before the college discontinued the program.

You can listen to the full interview with Carter on the PM Sports Page beginning this evening at 6 p.m. on the one to count on for today’s local sports coverage, KCII.
