While the pool will be closed to humans after today, it will open tomorrow for dogs. The 9th annual Doggie Paddle is being held and all funds raised will go to maintaining Washington’s 1.2 acre dog park. It is $5 per dog and admittance is free for people.
June Henderson, coordinator of the dog park, says they usually have 70 to 90 dogs attend throughout the day. Henderson encourages dog owners to bring their four-legged friends to the Steele Family Aquatic Center and says it is a good time to introduce pets to water.
Owners will also be able to get their dogs microchipped at PAWS and More for $20. She adds tomorrow’s event is a chance for dog owners to register their dogs for an annual membership to the dog park and she is looking for fresh faces to join the committee. Henderson can be reached at 319-461-0421.
Tomorrow’s dog swim at the Steele Family Aquatic Center is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. People who don’t have dogs are welcome to attend, or may call the animal shelter to volunteer to take a shelter dog to get some exercise at the pool.
