During Saturday’s Celebrate Washington festivities in downtown Washington an art auction was held. The LET’s Center’s tubular transformation projects were auctioned off with half of the proceeds going to the center and the other half going to the artists. Isabella Santoro with the LET’s Center explained the idea is a spinoff of the Herky statues in Iowa City and allowed the group to reuse and repurpose water softening tubes.

Saturday 36 tubes were auctioned, along with six pieces of art that were on display during the week-long Gallery Walk. The auction raised $3,270 total, with another $440 raised when the tubes were initially sold to the artists. The highest selling tube was sold for $200 and was titled “Starry Night Over Courthouse” which was created by June Henderson. Gary Murphy was the auctioneer.
