A new season of WACO volleyball begins tonight in Wayland. The Warriors are opening up their 2015 regular season by hosting a tournament tonight at Bob Hilmer Court.

Head volleyball coach Jay Coble says seven schools from around the region are coming to Wayland to participate in the event, including Centerville, Columbus, Maharishi, Pekin, Van Buren, West Burlington, and Wapello.

Coble adds he is excited about the upcoming season for his team, “This is a really fun set of girls,” Coble said, “We knew ultimately that we were going to be a little bit short height wise a couple years ago so we prepared for this.”

Junior Hallie Kissel returns for the Warriors after leading the squad with 332 assists last season. Senior Cierra McCartor is also back for WACO after recording 176 digs in 2014.

The first group of volleyball matches are set to begin at 5 p.m at WACO High School. Listen to tomorrow’s KCII Sports Page for results from the tournament.
