The summer programs for Washington Community School District were discussed at last night’s school board meeting. Lincoln Elementary principal Dave Hoffman said the summer lunch program was a “huge success” with an average of 300 people in attendance each day. During the summer programs, including lunch and summer school, 554 students were transported by bus from Brighton.

The Y-Read elementary summer school collaboration with the YMCA averaged 65 students per day, with a total of 80 kindergarten through fifth grade students participating. The Y-Read program was held for students who were not grade-level proficient in reading and it was the first year of the partnership.
