Washington County had 37 bankruptcies last year. In 2014, Keokuk County had eight and Johnson County had 116. Across the state, 10 counties had over 100 cases of bankruptcy last year. According to the Iowa Data Center, 10 years ago Washington had 103 bankruptcies, while Keokuk County had 53 and Johnson County had 438.

Since 2009, the three counties have seen a decline in bankruptcy cases by nearly 50 percent. Twenty years ago, Washington County had 45, Keokuk had 24 and Johnson County had 102 bankruptcies.
