Halfway through the race season, the leaders of the Washington Demon boys and girls cross country team are starting to hit their stride. The Demon cross country teams were in Henry County last night, competing in the Mount Pleasant Invitational.

Five Demon girls’ runners placed in the top 20 at the meet. Senior Emme Keith crossed the finish line in fourth place, clocking a time of 21:10. Sophomore Brooke Stout clocked a time of 21:38 28 seconds, the eighth best performance in the field. Freshman Maggie Vos place 16th, freshman Molly Sparks was 18th, and sophomore Morgan Brinning crossed the finish line in 19th place.

Two Washington boys runners placed among the top 20 finishers last night in Mount Pleasant. Sophomore Brennan Horak has the Demons’ best finish, placing 14th with a time of 19:14. Junior Owen Horak came in 19th place, recording a time of 20:02.

The Demons next race will be at the Washington Golf and Country Club Tuesday. The teams scheduled to run in the Washington Invitational include: Fairfield, Fort Madsion, Keokuk, Highland, Keota, and Sigourney.
