It wasn’t the end result head coach Julliana Berg hoped for, but her Washington Demon volleyball squad (3-7 overall) showed promising things Thursday evening. The Demons welcomed the Fairfield Trojans (4-1 overall; 2-0 Southeast) to Washington High School for the team’s home opener.

The Demons took game one from the Trojans 25-23, before the Trojans rattled off three straight wins (18-25, 15-25, 14-25) to take the first of two conference meetings between the schools.

Senior Amber Salow led the Demons offensively, recording eight kills on the evening. Salow also made two blocks in the setback. Berg was pleased with Salow’s showing, “She did a really nice job in the front row and also in the back row.” Berg said, “She was just everywhere on the court.”

Morgan Kimball added four kills in the setback.

Washington’s record drops to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in Southeast Conference play. The Demons are back on the court on Tuesday, facing off against the Keokuk Chiefs.
