Iowa’s Century and Heritage Farm families were recognized at the State Fair this year, including 366 Century Farms and 101 Heritage Farms. A family must have owned at least 40 acres for 100 years or more to qualify as a Century Farm and 150 years or more to be a Heritage Farm. In Washington County one Heritage Farm was recognized. The farm is that of Larry and Sierra Applegate near Ainsworth, with an origin year of 1864.

Three farms in Louisa County, established in the 1860s, were recognized as Heritage Farms. The three farms are those of Patricia Kay Bryant near Wapello (1862), Alfred Lee and Doris Ann Harris near Morning Sun (1865), and Rita G. Hill near Winfield (1865).
