Drivers across the state are enjoying the lowest gas prices in quite some time. The nationwide average price of $2.28 per gallon is the lowest since 2004, according to the website gasbuddy.com, where Senior Analyst Patrick DeHaan says there are numerous factors keeping the price low.

In Iowa the lowest price in the state is in Indiananola where gas is selling for $1.87 per gallon, the highest price can be found in Spencer, where gas is selling for $2.87. Here in southeast Iowa, gas can be found as low as $2.09 at several locations in Mount Pleasant, that is also the price in Wayland.

DeHaan expects prices to continue to fall in the days ahead thanks to the normal weaker demand in the fall.
