It’s homecoming in Wellman tonight and the #10 ranked Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team is getting set to host the #15 West Burlington Notre Dame Falcons.

. Mid-Prairie is out to their first 3-0 start since 1976, thanks to a grinding 13-0 win at L-M last Friday. The Hawks leaned on their defense and the rushing attack in the victory as they pitched their first shut out of the year and Ricky Vargas rushed for 194 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns.

On the other side of tonight’s matchup West Burlington Notre Dame was undefeated and ranked sixth in the state entering last week’s contest with #3 in class 1A West Branch. The Falcons jumped out to a 17-3 halftime lead, but the Bears scored 35 unanswered, tying the game midway through the fourth quarter and running away late for a 38-17 win, leaving West Burlington at 2-1 for the year.

On paper, as well as in record, these are two of the most successful teams in 2A. Both squads are ranked in the top 10 in rushing, yards per carry and total touchdowns. West Burlington also owns a lot of fire power and big play potential ranking second in the state in yards per play and total yards, while the Hawks have allowed just nine points per game on the year and only one touchdown over their last nine quarters of play. The Golden Hawks won this match up a year ago in Burlington by a 34-20 score.

The #10 Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks and #15 West Burlington Notre Dame Falcons will kickoff tonight at 7:30. You can hear all of the action on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIradio.com with the Washington HyVee pregame show beginning tonight at 7PM.
