The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk Cross Country teams traveled to Monitcello Saturday to participate in the Panthers home meet.

Monticello is currently ranked number one in the state for girls cross country and number three in boys competition. Both of Mid-Prairie’s teams check in at number seven in the latest poll. Aside from the Panthers the rest of the field was stout including the #10 Durant girls squad and a group of 17 runners ranked in the top 20 in the state. On the boys side of the meet Mid-Prairie and Monticello ended up tied for first place with 40 points each. If there is a tie in the team score it is broken by the placement of each team’s sixth runner. The Panthers edged the Golden Hawks on that criteria with their sixth runner finishing 15th and the Hawks spot taking 26th. In their runner up finish as a team Mid-Prairie was led individually by Luke Sigler who placed fifth with his time of 17:35. Other finishers for Mid-Prairie included Floyd Evans sixth, Ryan Errthum seventh, Peyton Miller in ninth, Andrew Schwartz 13th, Ben Sigler 26th and Ben Stone 27th.

The Mid-Prairie girls also brought home a runner up finish with their team score of 85 points. Monticello took the team title on their home course with 38 points. The Golden Hawks were led by Anna Hostetler, she finished sixth overall in 20:25. Other Mid-Prairie finishers included Maddi Zahradnek 18th, Abby Tornow 19th, Greta Schmidt 20th, Hannah Van Roekel 22nd, Kessa Jones 23rd and Shelby Zahradnek 44th. The Mid-Prairie boys and girls cross country teams will next be in action Saturday at their home meet, hosted at the Wellman Golf Course.
