A win tonight for the Highland Huskies football team (2-0 overall) will match the squad’s win total from last season. The Huskies will put their undefeated record on the line tonight in Columbus Junction, battling the Wildcats (1-1 overall) in a Class 1A District 6 showdown.

A factor in Highland’s fast start in 2015 has been the team’s opportunistic defense. The Huskies forced six turnovers in their first two games, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Two interceptions were taken to the endzone for a touchdown, one by freshman Trey Lasek and the other by senior Spencer Wieland.

Highland’s defensive challenge tonight will be to try to contain Columbus senior running back Mauricio Ramirez. Ramirez, last week’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week, leads District 6 in rushing yards with 401 and his four touchdowns are tied for the lead.

Last years meeting saw the Huskies defeat the Wildcats, 27-12. Kickoff of tonight’s game is set for 7:30 p.m. at Columbus Community High School. Listen tomorrow morning for results.
