Residents of southeast Iowa will have an opportunity to explore the past this week. The 4th annual Red Flag Horseless Carriage Tour will be held Wednesday through Friday.

The Red Flag Horseless Carriage Tour, which began in 2012, has participants drive from New London to Brighton. Event organizers say the reason they drive from New London to Brighton is because of history. The original drive from London, England to Brighton, England started in 1896 when the country abolished a law that required an automobile traveling faster than 4 mph be preceded by someone on foot holding a red flag.

This year’s event will focus on the contributions to the world of the horseless carriage, as the original automobile was called. The annual event recreates automotive history here in southeast Iowa.
