The first day of autumn is today and leaves across Iowa are beginning to change colors. Red, orange and yellow will be seen across the Hawkeye State. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has announced the peak times to see fall colors. Last September to the second week of October is the peak season in northern Iowa, north of Highway 20. Between Highway 20 and I-80 the ideal time to see brightly colored leaves is the first three weeks of October and southern Iowa’s best time is the second through fourth weeks of October.
