Getting out to an early lead has its advantages, just ask the Lone Tree Lion football team. The Lions built a 30-0 lead with 39 seconds remaining before halftime before thunderstorms caused a delay in the football game for a second time. After 10:45 p.m. the teams called the game, giving the Lions a week one victory.

Lions head coach Chad Shield said he was pleased at how coach able his kids were on Friday night, making corrections to mistakes made in their scrimmage against Louisa-Muscatine. “The biggest disappointment last night was only getting to play the half and not getting film on some guys who were chomping at the bit for their opportunity to get into the game in the second half.”

The Lions are preparing for four quarters of football this week, traveling to Belle Plain to face the Plainsman (1-0) The Plainsman are also 1-0 on the season after their 26-20 week one victory over the North Linn Lynx.
