Construction on a building that will replace Mid-Prairie’s temporary central office is expected to begin in the spring. Central office staff have been working out of two construction trailers for nearly four years.

Plans were in place in 2010 to renovate the district’s former central office, but after major structural and mold problems were discovered, the school board decided it would cost too much to complete the renovation and remedy those issues.

According to superintendent Mark Schneider, schematics for the new building, which will also be home to the district’s alternative learning center, will be presented to the board this month. He says they plan to put the project out for bid after the holiday break and have the contractor they select begin construction when the ground thaws.
