A moment of silence was held at about 9:28 a.m. Friday morning before the Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting in remembrance of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that struck 14 years ago. Supervisor Jack Seward said, “At about 7:46 a.m. Iowa time hit the World Trade Centers, at about 8:03 a.m. the second plane hit. At about 8:37 a.m. Iowa time the Pentagon was hit. At 9:03 a.m. a passenger plane hit an empty field in Pennsylvania.

“It was at about 9:28 a.m. Iowa time that the second World Trade Center tower collapsed, pretty sure we can all remember where we were, what we were doing when that particular thing happened. So, I would just at this time ask in remembrance for the 2,977 people that were killed by 19 radical Islamic terrorists on September 11th, 2001 to have a moment of silence.”

The room then fell quiet.

Following the moment of silence, the supervisors conducted their meeting and officially canvassed the votes from Tuesday’s school elections.
