Iowa’s unemployment rate remains below the national rate. In August, Iowa’s unemployment rate was 3.7 percent, below the country’s 5.1 percent unemployment. Washington County’s rate is below Iowa’s and nearly half of the national rate at 2.6 percent unemployment in August. Washington County’s unemployment dropped slightly from July. In July, 400 people were unemployed in Washington County, or 2.8 percent, and in August 300 people were without work. Area counties that experienced no change include Henry, Iowa, Jefferson, and Louisa counties.
