The next race on the calendar for the Washington Demon boys’ and girls’ cross country teams is set for tonight in Henry County. The Demon runners will travel to Mount Pleasant to take part in the Panthers’ yearly cross country invitational.

The race field includes 19 teams from across the Southeast region of the state, including: Cardinal, Central Lee, Columbus, Danville, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Harmony, Holy Trinity, Keokuk, Lone Tree, Louisa-Muscatine, Mediapolis, Mount Pleasant, Notre Dame, Van Buren, WACO, Wapello, and Winfield-Mount Union.

Washington’s cross country teams last competed Thursday evening in the Fort Madison Invitational at Rodeo Park. The Demons had two girls place in the top 10 at the meet. Senior Emme Keith recorded her best finish of the season, clocking the meet’s fifth best time at 21:22. Sophomore Brooke Stout finished one spot behind Keith, clocking a time of 21:36. Freshman Molly Sparks crossed the finish line in 14th place, recording a time of 22:31.

On the boys’ side, sophomore Brennan Horak clocked the team’s best time. He finished in 15th place, crossing the finish line in 18:42. His cousin, junior Owen Horak, ran the meet’s 23rd fastest time at 19:17.

Tonight’s varsity race of the Mount Pleasant Invitational is set to begin at 4:45 p.m.
