Area cross county teams will descend on the Washington Golf and Country Club for the Washington Cross Country Invitational. Six area schools are set to compete in the invitational, including: Fairfield, Fort Madison, Highland, Keokuk, Keota, and Sigourney.

Washington cross country coach Steve Roth is very appreciate of the Washington Golf and Country Club for hosting the meet. “It’s very important that they do, its a great facility.” Roth said, “They are gracious enough to set up a concession stand for us. It is going to be a beautiful day.”

The last time the Demon cross country teams were in competition was last Tuesday at the Mount Pleasant Invitational.

It was a notable meet for the Washington girls’ cross country team, who had five runners post top 20 finishes. Senior Emme Keith recorded the Demons best finish, crossing the finish line in fourth place with her personal best time 21:10. Sophomore Brooke Stout ran a time of 21:38, the eighth best time in the meet. Freshman Molly Vos placed 16th, freshman Molly Sparks finished 18th, and sophomore Morgan Brinning came in 19th place.

A pair of family members had top 20 finishes on the boys’ side. Sophomore Brennan Horak finished first for the Demons, placing 14th with a time of 19:14. His older cousin, junior Owen Horak, finished the meet in 20:02, the 19th best finish.

The varsity race of the Washington Cross Country Invitational is set for 4:45 p.m. at the Washington Golf and Country Club.
